About

Trimita a feminist researcher, organiser, & facilitator from the Indigenous Chakma hill tribe of Bangladesh with over 15 years of experience in social movement organising.

Trimita specialises in using Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) to strengthen social movements and evidence-based policy advocacy, particularly in women's rights, climate justice, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples' rights, land rights and water governance. Since 2012, Trimita has led numerous feminist research and advocacy campaigns across Asia, Africa, the Pacific and Latin America, collaborating with hundreds of community organisers and activists, and is widely published across academic, policy and practitioner outputs. In 2022, she co-founded FPAR Academy in Malaysia, a digital pedagogical platform for feminist political education, research and action. She holds an MA in Asian Women's Studies from Ewha Womans University in South Korea and an MSc in IT Management from Carnegie Mellon University in the USA. She is a PhD candidate at Edith Cowan University, where her doctoral research examines Indigenous women's organising against the coloniality of energy. She has been based in Bristol, UK since 2025.

    Led data analysis for research on loss and damage in fragile and conflict-affected states (Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, and Somaliland), examining climate-humanitarian-development-peace nexus through gender lens. This included comparative and descriptive analysis of 270 household surveys, 18 focus group discussions, and 39 key informant interviews. Produced evidence-based recommendations for gender-transformative approaches to loss and damage financing in conflict settings.

    Key highlights include:

    ▪ Directed the production of the video: Dangerous Gutters: South Asia's Despised Sanitation Workers documenting the harsh realities of sanitation workers in Bangladesh who face severe occupational hazards, social discrimination, and economic marginalisation while performing essential public services

    ▪ Led the production of the video: Public Service Workers on Frontline of Climate Crisis Fight for a Just and Equitable Transition highlighting the need for quality public services to respond to the climate crisis as well as the role of unions in advancing just transition particularly in small island states.

    ▪ Organised launching of a PSI study: Towards a Public Goods Approach for Climate Finance: the Case Study of the Green Climate Fund at the 5th ITUC World Congress in Melbourne. This study aims to assess the degree to which international climate finance (such as the Green Climate Fund) strengthens universal quality public services in developing countries.

    ▪ Developed the story: Mana Wāhine Claim: Māori women workers unite to challenge colonial legacies and restore indigenous workers’ rights and led the production of a podcast and a short video on how Māori women are fighting discrimination in in Aotearoa New Zealand.

    ▪ Created the social media tools for the #TRIPSwaiver digital campaign which were used by several international organisations to push for equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines and treatments during the pandemic.

    Developed a comprehensive Decolonisation Framework for ActionAid International to guide the organisation in integrating decolonisation principles, policies, and practices across all levels and domains of work.

    Consultant – Authoring a care framework for Women’s Labour Alliance (October–February 2022) 
    Developed and wrote “A Care Framework” envisioning a feminist, just and green future which requires a radical re-valuing and reorganisation of the economy, with care at the centre. This includes literature review of feminist economics theories and grey literature to support the members of Women’s Labour Alliance.

    Facilitated and supported the piloting of ActionAid's Feminist Research Guidelines in Zimbabwe, Liberia, and Brazil. Reviewed international research terms of references, reports, policy repots and the development of new policy positions.

    Consultant – The Feminist Humanitarian Network Research (September 2020–March 2021)
    Supported members of the Feminist Humanitarian Network in undertaking a research study to document the experiences of local and national women’s human rights organisations in responding to the challenges of COVID-19 including in designing, providing tools and approaches, analysis and validation of findings and producing reports and materials for policy advocacy.

    Consultant – Piloting of ActionAid's Feminist Research Guidelines in Myanmar (August 2020–February 2021)
    Supported and facilitated the research team in Myanmar to undertake piloting of ActionAid's Feminist Research Guidelines, including actively reflecting on and documenting the process, to identify and build on good practice, evaluate their usability, identify elements that need changing or missing to support their finalisation, including tools to support their roll-out across the ActionAid federation.

    Consultant – Global report and primer on the impact of COVID-19 on young women working in the informal sector (October –November 2020)
    Authored a rapid assessment report on the impact of COVID-19 on young women living in 22 informal settlement areas in India, Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa. Authored a primer for 16 Days of Activism call to action for the advancement and implementation of ILO C190 and the Beijing Platform for Action highlighting the plights of the young women working in the informal sector.

    Consultant – Expert in feminist participatory action research training in India (October 2019–March 2021)
    Designed, developed, and facilitated offline and online training for participatory data gathering and analysis methods and campaign tools for evidence-based advocacy on the impact of COVID-19 on young women living in urban settlements in three cities in India.
